Work with radiative transfer models.
Work with atmospheric general circulation models.
Earth Observing System interdisciplinary science group 'Biosphere-Atmosphere Interactions’
Climate Simulation
Professional Interests
Enhancement of current understanding of land surface processes and their interactions with the physical climate system at different space and time scales, using multi-scale remote sensing data, modeling and advanced analytical tools.
Combining remote sensing data, land-surface models, biogeochemical models and climate models to estimate global, regional and local effects of land cover changes on carbon exchange, net primary productivity and surface climate.
Use of high resolution satellite data (e.g., LandSat and Terra) to improve the representation of land cover and its characterization into biophysical and climate models
Development of new parameterizations to accommodate for high resolution data at target resolutions of 5 km (continental scale), 1 km (regional scale) and 30 m (local scale) for off-line settings, and 50 km for coupled models with reasonable feedback.
Continued use of coarse resolution maps of the seasonal dynamics of the biosphere as seen from satellite to drive coupled climate models in order to better understand
o the role of the biosphere as a forcing to the climate system,
o the response of the climate system to natural and human-induced changes in the biosphere,
o the effects of climate system on human activities and lifestyles.
Work on improving climate prediction capability.
