Kimberly Casey is a satellite remote sensing geoscientist with a specialization in cryospheric dust and debris quantification. Dr. Casey started her science career with research fellowships at Washington University (1996-1999), University of Maryland (1997), Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (1998) and then as a cryospheric support scientist at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md (2000). In 2008, she moved to Oslo, Norway, accepting a European Space Agency sponsored Ph.D. fellowship to improve satellite remote sensing of Earth's glaciers. She received her Ph.D. in remote sensing geoscience from the Department of Geosciences at the University of Oslo, Norway in 2011. During her Ph.D. research, Dr. Casey studied six glacier sites around the world; from volcanically influenced glaciers in Iceland and New Zealand to dust-influenced glaciers in Nepal and Switzerland to bare-ice and soot-influenced glaciers in Svalbard and southern Norway. Her results demonstrate that satellite data can be used to map the geochemical composition of glacier dust and debris. She returned to NASA Goddard in November 2011. Dr. Casey's recent work includes glaciologic analysis of the South Pole region for the 1500 m South Pole intermediate depth ice core retrieval. Dr. Casey participated in ice core recovery at the South Pole from Nov 2014 - Feb 2015. Dr. Casey continues her work on hyperspectral satellite and field based analysis and is involved with the upcoming PACE instrument development, as well as SAGE Arctic black carbon and impurity analysis of the Greenland ice sheet.
